During the middle of the 20th century the once rich mines of the Park City area began to play out and the community began searching for alternative sources of income.

The north facing slopes and light powder snow of Utah made the area a natural destination for the growing recreational sport of skiing and the community pieced together a 10,000 acre resort on old mining claims called Treasure Mountain.

Today the Park City area features three major ski resorts (Park City Mountain Resort, The Canyons and Deer Valley). The area also sports an Olympic Park Ski jumping facilities and Soldiers Hollow cross country ski venue.
